History
Geodis Belgium nv was established in 1971
in Londerzeel and incorporated as Calberson Belgium nv. It was
primarily an import and export hub for shipments to/from France. The platform
was fully integrated in the international distribution network of Calberson.
By the end of the eighties Calberson
became more and more involved in the overseas activities thanks to several acquisitions.
As part of the Herman Ludwig international network the sea and airfreight business
from/to the Far East and Latin America became much more important. Offices were
opened in Brucargo, Olen and in the port of Antwerp.
In 1997 Calberson decided to transfer
its overseas business to a joint venture with a local forwarding company Polytra
nv.
In 1999 Geodis bought 100% of the
shares of the Dutch logistics provider Vitesse. The seafreight operations of Vitesse
in Antwerp were transferred to Geodis Overseas Polytra. A first logistics site
in Belgium was created in Kortenberg (near Brussels) for IBM.
In 2002 Geodis Benelux bought 100%
of the shares of this joint venture.
In 2004 the four companies belonging
to the Group were merged into one legal entity. Geodis Vitesse Overseas nv , Vitesse
Belgium bvba, Geodis Logistics Vitesse nv were merged into Calberson Belgium nv,
which then changed the name into Geodis Belgium nv.
In 2005 Geodis strengthened its
presence in the logistics field with the opening of a multi-user cross-dock
platform in Schoten (20,000 mē).
